Shot on location in the West, and depicting the colorful
people, places, events and legends of the Old West. Each lesson is designed to teach
something new about the history of our country and its pioneer people. The series is based
on historical research presented in an interesting and concise format.

Horace Greeley
After Horace Greeley panned for gold in Central City, the Colorado gold rush
escalated.
Central City
Like the precious metal discovered there, legends and reputations were mined out of the
1859 gold rush to Central City, Colorado.
Central City Opera House
Frontiersmen built the Central City Opera House, an elegant temple of art and
entertainment.
Fort Smith
Fort Smith, Arkansas, was founded to quell strife between the Indians and white settlers
and later between the North and the South.
"Hanging" Judge Parker
Between 1875 and 1896, Judge Parker, who didn't believe in long prison terms, condemned 79
outlaws to death at Fort Smith.
Donner Party
What began as a short cut to the West turned out to be one of the most gruesome journeys
in American history.
"Snowshoe" Thompson
John Thompson applied his knowledge of skiing and snowshoes to deliver mail. He became a
hero to the miners and farmers in the old West.
The Tabors of Colorado
Silver made Horace Tabor's fortune in Leadville, Colorado, and led him to poverty in a
Denver hotel when values plummeted.
"Unsinkable" Molly Brown
What Molly Brown wanted most was acceptance by the fledgling Denver society. She finally
won favor when she became the unsinkable heroine of the Titanic tragedy.
Mission San Diego de Alcala
Marauded by Indians, sold off by the motherland, inhabited by the military, and weakened
by earthquake, Mission San Diego de Alcala stands in serenity after 200 years of violence.
Handcart Companies
Thousands of Mormon converts built handcarts and pushed them on foot from Iowa City to
northern Utah.
