Get Ready, Get Set, Go On-Line

1 Sixty-Minute Program
Grade(s):  6 - Adult
Curriculum Area:  Technology

GET READY, GET SET, GO ON-LINE, shows that there are no right answers, just right questions, and helps you ask the questions that will get your classroom, school, or district wired.  The program provides an overview of the effective use of the Internet in the classroom. Reports from these schools, one already on-line, one preparing to go on-line, and one in the planning stages, provide practical hands-on information and advice.  The program also provides specific technical and detailed cost information on the following topics:

  • A planning process that helps you design and fund the right systems.
  • Your network - system costs, local access networks, the intemet languace, wiring phone lines, servers, routers and the role of consultants.
  • The connection to an intemet provider - from a single dial-up modem to coaxial cable.
  • The network administrator
  • Advice on dealing with the phone or cable company
Teaching, with the Internet - how to access information that will make the curriculum come alive.

Teacher Guide:  A 4-6 page guide is being written summarizing the video with lists of questions that should be asked in designing, installing, and operating an on-line system in a school building or district. Vocabulary list will also be included
