The Museum Lives

14 Five Minute Programs
Grade(s): K – 6
Curriculum: Multi-discipline

Objectives:

  1. To gain a better understanding of how exhibits and museums are organized and operated.
  2. To observe the many educational resources that museums have to offer.
  3. To present methods/techniques for gaining the most from a trip to the museum.
  4. To see a relationship between the past and the present.
  5. To motivate viewers to utilize the wonderful resources available through the museum systems.

The Museum Lives was designed to be utilized in a number of ways and at all elementary grade levels (K-6) in conjunction with many subject matter areas. A comprehensive teacher guide helps the series to achieve this goal by providing a section for the teacher that presents the usual teacher guide information. A second section is for the students use and may be reproduced to serve as work sheets for the individual lesson to enable the teacher to use the programs for enrichment activities, independent work, extra credit and challenge activities.

Most of the series is shot on location in museums, historic sites, and other related places featuring actual museum personnel doing and explaining their "jobs".
