Each program concentrates on one area, as identified
in the titles of the individual programs. Students are followed at home,
school and in treatment. Teachers, parents and children talk about the
changes tbey've had to make, what treatment works, and how it's affected
life at school and home. Nationally known physicians and researchers
explain medical procedures and current research that may lead to new
treatment..
The acclaimed Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical center is working with NHPTV
to create PRESCRIPTION FOR LEARNING, a unique series that offers
educators support in teaching health and understanding bow and why their
students may be affected by certain illnesses or chronic diseases.

Dyslexia (22:30)
Dyslexia is the learning disability that affects millions of
Americans. It covers a wide range of problems that can affect oral
and written language. But dyslexia is not a disease. It describes a
different kind of mind, often gifted and productive, that learns
differently. The disadvantages and advantages are profiled in this
program. New approaches in school are shown at the Washington Lab
School, a pioneer in teaching techniques. Dr. Gordon Sherman,
president of the Orton Dyslexia Society, explains research on the
condition. Thomas West, author of In the Mind's Eye, talks about our
society's shifting need for more people with visual gifts that are
often associated with dyslexia.
