Curriculum: Social Studies, History, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Journalism, Public Policy, Pre-Law

Ask any American about small claims court or family court, and they could tell you its ins and outs. Modem television has made sure of that. But what about the highest court in the land? How does the Supreme Court work? Hosted by veteran news commentator Paul Duke, this two-part series profiles the Supreme Court as both a source of stability and a force for social change. Viewers enjoy a unique look behind the scenes of this venerable American institution.

Programs:

  1. "A History of the Court" Part I follows the Supreme Court's evolution from its modest beginnings in 1789 through the infamous Dred Scott slavery case to the political debate surrounding President Ronald Reagan's nomination of Robert Bork

  2. "Inside the Supreme Court" Part 2 examines the case of Edwards v. Aguillard, which challenged the teaching of creationism in Louisiana schools. Viewers learn how a case winds its way through the highest court and witness rare interviews with the chief justice and associate justices.
